About the Artist

I paint because I have to. I am sensitive to my environment and take it all in. I process what is received by allowing it to flow out of me through what i put down on paper or canvas. I’ve made this not only a daily ritual but a creative and spiritual process. I strive to recreate every emotion, thought, opinion and idea. Each of my works is a representation of this.

My goal is to fulfill my destiny. I believe I was given this gift for a reason and my life journey is to find out why. Most importantly, when I finally meet my maker I don’t intend to explain why I didn’t become an artist.

My background is in classical realism. I am self-taught. I study other artists work, both past and current. I have studied the techniques used in Ateliers and have grown over time to be comfortable in my own skin. I have developed my own style of work and dubbed it “funky cool”. It has evolved from influences such as Picasso, Basquiat and comic book art. “Funky Cool” encompasses who I am. It is my truth. I am and will continue to evolve because being an artist is an ongoing and never ending journey. I like the freedom of being able to draw and paint figures in my own way and not being constrained to what society says or thinks. I love textures and depth. When I capture something on canvas the background is just as vital as the central figure. The human body is a piece of art in and of itself. I cannot improve on what God has created. I can only make it “funky cool”.

  2. hi juliette! i stumbled across your work on Turning Art, and i really dig your style. i love the jazz themes of your work (i’m a lindy hopper myself), and the style is funky and cool. i’m an artist also on turning art, hence how i found you there. your style gives me some ideas for how to break out of realism a bit and experiment with some abstract styles of people. maybe even do some jazz paintings, something i’ve wanted to do for a while. so thanks! :)
